hopefully muffins will be on offer.
Just got an invite from new neighbours for Phil and I to swing by for coffee tomorrow morning.

I feel so suburban.

Conjugating the first person singular, if you know what I'm sayin'
I have a masturbation problem.

Specifically, I can't bring myself to accept "masturbate" as a transitive verb.

Refresher: A transitive verb takes an object. An intrasitive verb takes no object. (More technically, a transitive verb has two arguments, while an intransitive verb has one.)

intransitive: "I masturbated this morning."
transitive: "I masturbated Antonio Banderas this morning.
"
According to every dictionary I've consulted, both uses are grammatically correct. But the transitive use just seems, I don't know ... inelegant, somehow.

Anyone with me?

Hope you liked cheap flying while it lasted...
Judging by the current trend in oil prices, your cheap airfares are about to disappear for good. Salon's Ask The Pilot has more.

In short: jet fuel costs more than anything else airlines pay for, and it's way past the feasible business model range. Jet fuel was 86 cents per gallon in 2003, but is around $6 today. Let's say you fly a 767 with 300 seats across the Atlantic on a 5-hour flight. That plane could burn 50,000 pounds of jet fuel, or almost 8000 gallons. At the current $6/gallon, that's $160 per passenger. One way. Then the airline has to pay for the plane, the crew, the landing fees, and food, the toilet paper, and so on and so on. (note: all specs approximate)

I'm glad I'm earning lots of points this year, because I sure won't be next year.

Note: numbers updated based on different estimates I found.

Another note: I found more numbers here, so I think the numbers could be as high as $400 per person, one way, in the above example.

Little. Yellow. Different.
Yikes. This sounds dangerously tempting, especially when I need to write a half dozen certification exams in the next six months.

So true, so true.
Since my life is at present a meaningless void, I feel a meme is in order.

STARSCREAM
Take the Transformers Quiz

Starscream has delusions of grandeur. He chose to resemble an F-22 jet because it’s the pinnacle of human technical achievement. He serves Megatron but longs to fill his shoes.

Like Starscream, you are evil, motivated by destruction and chaos. Your leadership skills are weak at best. You will never be the commander of the Decepticons. In addition, you enjoy technology and are aware of the latest trends, but you stick with what works for you.

The great experiment?
Photobucket

Ok, so I've now had a Playstation 3 for 4 months.

A recent post by [info]zakmckracken has catalysed something for me.

I'm getting really really bored with it.

Not the system itself, which with its Blu-Ray and media-centre capabilities is actually used for movie/TV viewing more than my DVD player (especially when the HD TV-tuner comes out one of these years), but the fact that I'm almost completely over playing games on the thing.

I have tried and tried to get into video games, but it seems like 99.9% of them involve using a weapon of some sort. Whether it be shooting bullets/arrows/fireballs or using a sword/axe/severed zombie arm, it all comes down to having to press the same button over and over and over again.

For the Wii replace "pressing button" with "waving arm".

I lose interest very quickly at this point.

Conclusion: I need to upgrade my PC so I can get some decent adventure games (Come back Monkey Island, all is forgiven!). Or just stick to movies where even if the film is awful my brain is at least somewhat engaged.

Or maybe learn how to read. JK.

yaaaaawn
so in other news of me, today is a weird work day. we're trying to get some functionality done and out to some beta sites, but i think the realization of expectations is it won't happen today. And i'd like it to continually be learning lessons for those managers who want it NOW NOW NOW, that, as with all software we've worked on recently and forever ago, you need to have a better idea of how long it takes to get things working.

But what can ya do but grin and do what you can, really. So I sit and wait for the fixes so I can test some more. Maybe learning will happen, maybe not. Maybe it's me who has to learn.

Tonight is the ANTM Finale! I'm actually kind of excited. I'm all for team Anya, but who knows. There seems to be this growing want for plus-sized Whitney to win (oddly, it's the second plus-sized model named Whitney i've seen on the show since i started watching three seasons cycles ago. Suspense!

In terms of mentality, i'm feeling even better today. I schedules a theRAPIST appointment for next week, however there is some loops to hop through in getting that squared away. Apparently theRAPISTS don't like the network I'm in through my work, as they're bad at paying them. And in talking with the network people to get clearance/acceptance on seeing Dr. Doug (as his is called) is proving tricky already. A phone conversation today showed more hoops than one from yesterday, and that's annoying as all hell. But I spoke with Dr. Doug, and he seemed nice and easy going so far. I'm hoping i can meet with him and see what's up, and start focusing on me without my regular distractions. I feel like i'm echoing some of [info]bender772's words from a little while ago.

I also watched the second episode of the 4400 and the Care Bears (ha, i typed Bares first) Movie last night after a gym ass-kicking. I'm calling the 4400 the x-files-men. With a mix of really bad CSI writing put in. The Care Bears movie (did it again) brought back a lot of childhood feelings and nostalgia. All in 77 minutes.

Oh, one of the developers just came in, and now i have people swarming in and out again. i swear there are some analogies there i could make. What would yours be?

Q: I'm a 31-year-old man, and my girlfriend is 28. We've been in a monogamous relationship for four years. Recently, we've been doing the long-distance thing, and we're going to be doing it for a while until I can move from Canada to the United States. This is our problem: She brought up the idea of an open relationship until I get down there. I said OK—trying to be GGG—then called her back 24 hours later and reneged.Dan, I can't . . . read more (By Dan Savage)
